Becoming a cansail instructors is no small feat. The requirements are rigorous and it takes many years to develop the wide variety of skills. Taegen McPhee
My name is Taegen McPhee and I am a 20 years old sailing coach from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. I am a CanSail V sailor and I obtained this level through through the Mira Sailing Club as well as the Hubbard Sailing Club with hard work, dedication and perseverance. I was also involved in rigorous Fall Series Training Sessions in Halifax for two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015 which exposed me to difficult sailing conditions such as hurricane weather.
In the off season, when I am not sailing or coaching, I am pursuing my studies of a Bachelor of Science Honours in Psychology at Cape Breton University. As well, I am currently studying for the MCAT which I plan to write this July in hopes of pursuing a career in the medical field.
This upcoming summer will be my fourth year as the head coach of the Mabou Sailing Club. I am overjoyed to be able to coach in Mabou and to continue to strengthen the abilities of the returning sailors while also guiding and teaching the new sailors. Being as devoted to the success of both the sailors and the sailing club, coaching is far more than just a job to me and my commitment spans well past the average 9am-5pm. Each year the children and my fellow coaches create amazing memories that last a life time and I am eager to begin this summer's program and see what awaits!
